Melamine, Plastic, and Tritan: Which is the Best Option for You?

Melamine, Plastic, and Tritan: Which is the Best Option for You?

With patio season around the corner, your table might be longing for a spring refresh. While shopping for durable outdoor tabletop products, it’s important to look for materials that are going to be suitable for al fresco dining. From plastic and Tritan to Melamine, we explain the benefits of each of these materials, plus what you should watch out for, to help you choose the best option for your family.

What is Tritan?

Tritan mimics the aesthetic of glass, but with the added benefit of being shatterproof. Similar to Melamine, Tritan is durable, BPA-free and dishwasher safe. Due to its translucent property, Tritan is used more predominantly in drinkware. This is a great option if you want glass tableware but are worried about shattering around the pool or spa—especially with kids at home!

What is Melamine?

Melamine is BPA-free, shatterproof, and suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. If you just moved to a home on the beach, you can find plates with seashells, but if you need plates for your New Years’ Eve dinner, you can find glittery plates that make your décor pop! All Melamine dishes and products are not microwave safe, but they are dishwasher safe and can be reused multiple times. Melamine is affordable, durable, and comes in a variety of designs to match your style!

For these reasons, Abode Homewares uses Melamine for not only our dishes and kitchenware, but for our pet, garden, and kids’ products, as well. We aim to provide our customers with the best in homeware that they can afford. From the beginning, we made Melamine our go-to material because of all of the benefits it provides, and we know you’ll love it, too!

What is Polypropylene?

If your focus is on ease and affordability, then polypropylene is the way to go. Unlike Melamine, polypropylene is microwave safe, which is perfect for reheating leftovers. For that reason, it is commonly found in our kids products. Amongst plastics, polypropylene is known for being durable, non-porous, and BPA-free.

You can find a wide assortment of polypropylene items on our site, including our indoor/outdoor planters, which will put a final touch to your outdoor tablescape.

Cheers to the warm weather ahead!
